Right after Isaiah shared his parable of the vineyard and pronounced six woes upon God’s people, he shared a message of hope and describes an “Ensign” being lifted up to bring gathering and protection. The ensign referred to here by Isaiah is a type of flag or banner. It is a rallying point around which people can believe in and unit.
And he will lift up an ensign to the nations… and behold, they shall come with speed swiftly
-Isaiah 5:26 KJV
Ever since the Portland Mormon Choir & Orchestra was formed in 2005, we have sought to be an Ensign to the people of the Portland region. We have sought to share wholesome and uplifting, professional-quality concerts. And, more than just great music, we have sought to share messages of hope and peace that will help lead each attendee back to God.
Today, the Portland Mormon Choir & Orchestra embarks on the same journey, only under a new name. In order to comply with a new policy found in the worldwide handbook of instructions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Portland Mormon Choir & Orchestra is changing its name to the Portland Ensign Choir & Orchestra. Even though we will now operate under a new name, our mission remains unchanged as does our commitment to that mission.
We hope that you’ll continue to “come with speed swiftly” to all of our concerts and that you’ll tell your friends and family about us. Together, we can continue to make this part of the world a better place, truly an “Ensign” to Portland.
